Teacher Training

Aikido of London teacher training program

The Aikido of London teacher training program provides qualified participants with the tools to evolve their practice and teach effectively. A strong technical and physical foundation is developed, together with self-awareness and teaching experience.

The Teacher Training program is available to Aikido of London students who have been members for a minimum period of 12 months. Prospective participants are required to send an application of their intention to join the program, provided the minimum requirements are met. An interview will follow and the final decision will be made at the discretion of the Head Teacher.

Assistant Teacher Training

Assistant Teacher Training is a 24 month program with a minimum of 400 hours training time. The minimum entry requirement is Shodan. The course is comprehensive and the curriculum will cover the following areas:

  • 1. Technical  training based on the Aikido of London test requirements for Aikido and Aikido weapons.
  • 2. Coaching Skills including teacher training intensives and advanced class.
  • 3. Assisting and teaching basic level classes with supervision.
  • 4. First Aid Training.
  • 5. Written paper.

Senior Teacher Training

Senior Teacher Training is an 18 – 24 month program with a minimum of 400 hours training time. The minimum entry requirement is Nidan. The course continues from the Assistant Teacher Training program to achieve a deeper level of understanding of training and instruction. The program includes:

  • 1. Technical  training based on the Aikido of London test requirements for Aikido and Aikido weapons.
  • 2. Extensive weapons training.
  • 3. Coaching Skills including teacher training intensives and advanced class.
  • 4. Assisting and teaching basic and intermediate level classes with and without supervision.
  • 5. First Aid Training.
  • 6. Written paper.
